Prosperous (Chinese) New Year for Aspiring Professionals

Rate this Entry
Today's 年初一, the first day of Spring according to the Chinese New Year Calendar.

To all Chinese worldwide, it signifies a fresh start. Families and friends will wish one another blessings for a fruitful, healthy and prosperous year ahead.

My third Chinese New Year from home (Singapore), this is my first in Beijing. Among the well-wishes by email, one is from my former intern, Junjie.

Hi Lance,

Happy New Year to you. Thanks for your guidance all these while. I couldn't have been where I am today without my fateful internship with you.

Where I am today... no where as far as where you were or are, but enough to get me started into photography for a living, which I realise is quite far from where I was more than a year ago before my internship with you.

Take care and all the best to you.

Best,

Junjie
A young photographer who's about to graduate from college, Junjie has always been very bright, albeit a little too shy and not bold enough.

About ten years younger than me, it always intrigue me to wonder how far and faster he can go, given more help and guidance.

In my younger days, I have three mentors who have influenced me a lot. Two are ten years older than me and one two decades older. There seems to be something magical about decades of experience and age differences.

So this sets me going, what more can I think of to help my juniors grow faster and go further?

A set of career advices for young, aspiring professionals in my blog soon. Stay tuned please.
